It's the pre-milestone moments that are the most amazing. The milestone moments themselves are quite bittersweet, as you know your child can finally do something is amazing, but the build up over the previous weeks and months is no longer there. All that work - trial and error that went into the activity is now over, and all you're left with is your child being able to do something they couldn't do before.
I guess this is just natural, or else my mum and dad would call me up every day and a) be amazed I can talk and b) be amazed I didn't kill myself with them not around to look after me.
As I write this, I am currently committing to memory the last few pre-walking milestone days we have left with Emily. She's able to take a couple of steps by herself and then either teeters over or collapses. It's been a lot of work for Sue and I, as well as a lot of work for Emily, constantly being told, "c'mon Em, you can do it", like you'd say to a pet dog or trained chimp.
After this milestone, I don't really know what's next - talking? brushing her teeth by herself? eating WITH chewing?
It's a lot of fun seeing development through a child's eyes and long may it continue.
The ongoing saga of being a ongoing father of two - one with autism and one who died for 20 minutes. From pre-birth, birth and through those difficult toddler years. It's definitely a life changing event going from singleton to parent.

Getting to grips
The ups have pretty much been isolated to Emily sleeping loads. The downs obviously involve her awake-time activities, or should that be activity - feeding.
We assume she's going through another growth spurt as she's spending all her awake time suckling at the teat.
It's making Sue rather forlorn as she's merely a food conduit, and can't really enjoy Emily on any other level at the moment.
Me being dad, and feeling quite neutered not being able to help with the fooding, am trying to help out in other ways.
I took Em out for a stroll around the neighbourhood yesterday in the pram and sourced dinner and am doing laundry and nappy changes where I can.
Now that life is becoming a bit more routine with the baby (if that's possible yet), we're moving on to "phase two" activities, getting all the legal and paperwork stuff out of the way.
With Emily's registration last week, we can move on to getting her a passport and claiming for benefits and childhood credits. Also need to sort out a bank account so we can begin regular deposits into her education / PS3 / booze on 18th birthday / new car fund.
Managed to nab another cute pic of Emily. This time she's ready to go with her bluetooth headset sorted out!
