Emily's Autism Glossary

Emily has a considerable amount of vocabulary, but it can take some getting used to in order to figure out what she actually means.

As her dad, here's my best guess as to what she means when she says things. I'll be adding to this as I think of things.

A

C

"Call me good" - Pick/Lift me up. (This is a reference from the Gruffalo, one of Emily's favourite books.)

D

"Daddy pig" - I'm agitated. (I believe this is a Peppa Pig reference, but not sure how it's mutated into this.)

"Drive!" - Tapping. (More accurately, "please stop tapping". I used to tap on the steering wheel when driving and Emily would grab my hand. I would scold her by saying, "Emily, I'm driving.")

"Dogs!" - Not sure about this one, but she is quite annoyed when she says it.

J

"Jam" - when she's hungry, she seems to gravitate to wanting jam.

K

L

M

"Movie" - Emily's new catch all for an app on the tablet. At the moment it's really geared toward interactive books she likes.

N

O

P

"Poor Schnitzel von Krumm" - I'm sad. (This is from one of Emily's favourite books when Schnitzel is sad and sitting on the stairs.)

Q

S

T

"Touch" - a catch all word for any app on a tablet.

U

"Upstairs" - literally, I want to go upstairs (generally used in the evening when she's tired)

V

W

"Wake up now" - This is a new one and I'm still trying to get to grips on the meaning
