Intensive therapy for Holly

Over the past two weeks we've been doing intensive therapy with Holly. Given that she's only one year old, this really means doing an hour a day for four days a week (she has Wednesday as a rest day).

Sue and I were sceptical and hopeful before we began the sessions that they would aid Holly overcome her movement related issues. At the beginning of the session we had to list some goals we had for the two weeks.

Happily enough, one of the goals - Holly sitting unaided for a small amount of time - was achieved long before the end of the two week session.

Both Sue and I are really ecstatic with the progress Holly has made and we've seen how tiring it has been for her to do the work, even for the hour session. Now that the two weeks is over, Sue and I have our homework to continue what we've learned, while going back to having the one hour a week session (plus the hour a week NHS session).

Sue and I were so happy with how things progressed that we're eager to book in another two weeks. This won't be for another 4 to 6 weeks, to give Holly time to take on board everything she's gone through these past sessions.

Crawling... an update

When we picked Emily up from the child minder's last night, Sue and I had quite a shock - she was crawling. True to form, however, Em had decided not to do it the conventional way. Instead, she was crawling backwards. Months ago, she was scooting across the floor on her back backwards, now she's crawling backwards.

Never one to follow societal norms is our baby!

Here's hoping she learns to walk forwards, else watch out walls...

Scoocher McGee

Over last week or so, Emily has become an increasingly mobile little creature... and it's worrying.

It all started with her pushing herself off her change matt with her legs. Now it's got to the point where she's "back surfing" around the living room, starting off on her baby gym and ending up across the room in pretty record time. This has all been documented on camera phone by Sue.

It was all smiles and giggles until yesterday when Emily decided to back surf into an ottoman we have near the dining table. Sue was very careful to cover any dangerous surfaces on the coffee table with pillows, but you can never hold a dedicated scootcher down and Emily went careening into the ottoman.

Many tears ensued and we decided sooner rather than later is when we need to baby proof the flat.

So far we have her wriggling and almost being able to turn over on her back, now we have her moving around the room. Her development has been quite interesting to witness.

Kicking it!

Sue informed me that the baby is now getting the stage where you can feel it kicking - and not internally. As the mother / foetus carrier,

Sue's had more interaction and more feeling from the baby than I have. I've felt the odd push that could have been a foot or trapped wind. I imagine that from here on the obvious signs are going to get even more obvious.

Of course, this could mean we have a Beckham on our hands!

Sometimes you kick... sometimes you get kicked

Laying in bed, watching Miss Potter on DVD, I was afforded the opportunity to feel our pre-natal child doing somersaults in Sue's belly. I felt the odd murmur, which could have easily been wind, save for Sue complaining about all this movement in her stomach.

I guess with 22 weeks fast approaching, activities like these are going to be more common, and to think there's tell of allowing abortions up to 24 weeks! With activities like this it is definitely tantamount to murder.

I look forward to further activities of our wee bairn in the days and weeks to come.
